Hole Hearted 4/16/03
I’ve heard it said by many
before me that every one
born into the world has been
crafted with a God-Shaped hole.
An odd shape, indeed, it must be,
to house the very One
with resumé that reads;
“Genesis 1.”
Will the shape ever hold fast
for a long enough time that
allows itself to be caught and fulfilled?
Eternity is such a long time
I know the things in my undersized past
failed to hold me and keep me, but
left me aghast and appalled.
There’s a chance I must take,
a change indeed, it would be.
my life’s in the balance,
such a crisis decision.
Should I fling off the bolt
of this creaky old gate?
What will I find? An empty black void?
A bare garden prepared for excessive décor?
My decision has one sole stipulation,
it must be made with much resolve
and agreed to whole-heartedly.

Rhyming version>
What an odd shape,
Does it ever hold fast?
Whatever is in there
Must for eternity last.
I’ve tried so many things
In my undersized past
But nothing ever held me,
Only left me aghast.
Is it time for a change
Is it time for a break?
Must I open my eyes
To the chance I must take?
I realize whatever it is
It musn’t be fake.
Tell me where to go
I need to know for God’s sake.
This hole is lamenting
For it’s suitable mate.
I fling it wide,
This creaky old gate.
I’ve made the choice
Is it ever too late?
The doors will be open
As forever He’ll wait.

Rhyming comes easy for me but my professor is REALLY trying to get me to cease.
