Lamentations 3:23
My blank page awaits me in the morning.
The sun rises in blindingly forgiving brilliance.
My veiled eyes, unawares of steps upcoming,
cannot, and will not, heed former times
or their attempts at today’s direction.
My feet fall out of bed into tender new mercies
and record with every step,
as a pen dipped in ink,
a perfectly retraceable path.
Sometimes my mind excavates and uncrumples
forgettable pages of past decisions.
I keep from sadness by accepting new grace,
by stepping to places never visited before.
Every day I claim new ground, for if not,
ground acquired is lost.
I press on in unseen adventure,
making choices, some hot, some cold,
but never lukewarm, constructing biography
with every step on today’s given blank page.
Trusting God’s guidance by action,
today’s page can be folded up,
stamped, and stored away
in memory’s safe for future enjoyment,
allowing me to take off my soiled slippers
and crawl back in bed to await the new day.
-Matthew Harri
Freedom from pain can be obtained, if you want it. There is forgiveness to be had.
