Spring Meditations 4/16/03
1 Corinthians 6:19
Towering billows of dark interruption
blow between peace and myself.
I flip myself over, pretending to find
some other source of relief and sweet solace.
Surrounding pristine green— in unfingered
creation I lie lost in a world unknown.
I would stay here forever if the cadence
of time weren’t fit as a Ranger, keeping
historical pace, dragging totality at a furious rate.
Professors’ suggestions for learning their foci
turn to dust inside, underneath my green sofa;
a poor substitute in my estimation
of being right here where I am at this moment.
With empty pockets, a pen, and white paper,
my load is quite light; a freedom of sorts
has been transported outside with my trek.
For we all carry one thing everywhere our
feet tread: creative objectives, a heart
full of thoughts that carry the world.
An Atlas of sorts, only this is much different.
It should be no burden; our lumbars rejoice
at the mention of meaning, the truth of a purpose.
How quickly forgotten our value becomes,
allowed to be thrown by tough circumstances.
No interruptions, no matter the darkness,
can eradicate purpose from life, I can see.
Though clouds carrying rain and cold bitter winds
may anxiously blow the frail doors of our hearts,
a peace can be held by carrying rewards—
within, not relying without.
-Matthew Harri
Carrying your Reward within yourself prevents the roller-coaster life derived from circumstances.
